Material Handling Specialist

The position is responsible for handling of all materials from the inbound side up to the stamping press operations. Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other equipment as required to fulfill duties.

Responsibilities
• Operate forklift in all warehouse & fabrication shop operations.
• Perform pre-shift forklift safety inspections.
• Observe forklift operations so that malfunctions can be detected and notify the supervisor of any malfunctions.
• Pack orders and wrap, band, or bundle for shipping; lift raw materials, finished products, and packed items either manually or using a forklift.
• Count finished products to determine if product orders are complete, mark or tag identification on parts.
• Load and unload items from machines, tables, shelves, racks & turntables.
• Help machine operators & production workers by loading & unloading material onto machines tables & turntables.
• Separate products according to weight, grade, size, and composition of materials used to produce them.
• Place products in equipment or on work surfaces for further processing, inspecting, or wrapping.
• Remove products, machine attachments, and waste material from machines.
• Pack and store materials and products.
• Tie products in bundles for further processing or shipment, following prescribed procedures.
• Transfer finished products, raw materials, tools, or equipment between storage and work areas of plants and warehouses, by hand or using hand trucks or powered lift trucks.
• Prepare raw materials for processing.
• Count raw materials & products to ensure inventory.
• Load & unload trucks
• Pack products and product parts during processing.
• Clean work areas, machines, equipment, vehicles, and products.
• Repack, relabel, stack, & prepare products for stocking or shipping.
• Wear many hats and may be asked to assist with other areas in the shop/office/warehouse.

Requirements and skills
• High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).
• Forklift operator experience.
• Basic Forklift Safety Training Class Certificate.
• Ability to be trained to learn basic computer skills, as well as to become proficient in company-specific software.
• Proficient in English.
• Effectively communicate with co-workers and management regarding work and safety issues.
• Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Comprehend job training and safety instructions.
• Crane Certified; Forklift Certified; Ladder and Sling Certified.
